Begin Your Driving Journey
Learning to drive is an important step toward independence, confidence, and new opportunities. Whether you’re learning for work, education, or everyday freedom, gaining your driving licence is a skill that will benefit you for life.
Before You Start Driving
Before taking driving lessons in the UK, you must have a valid provisional driving licence. You can apply online through the official DVLA website once you are eligible to begin learning.
You can apply from the age of 15 years and 9 months, but you can only start driving a car when you turn 17.
Eyesight Requirements
Safe driving starts with good vision. UK law requires drivers to be able to read a vehicle number plate from the required distance before driving on public roads. If you normally wear glasses or contact lenses, these should always be worn during lessons and tests.
If you are unsure about your eyesight, it is recommended to arrange an eye test with an optician before beginning lessons.
Theory & Practical Tests
Your driving journey includes two official tests:
Theory Test
The theory test checks your knowledge of road signs, driving rules, and hazard perception skills.
Practical Driving Test
Once you have passed your theory test and are ready to drive independently, you can book your practical driving test.
